At Arbor View Senior Living, connection is at the heart of daily life. For Life Enrichment Director Jamie and Concierge Pat, that connection is also personal. As a mother and daughter working side by side, they bring a shared sense of purpose, compassion and joy to the Arvada, Colorado-based community. Their story reflects both their individual passion for serving others and the close-knit family atmosphere rooted in Arbor View’s history.
In this Q&A, Jamie and Pat share their experiences, insights and what makes their work and their bond so meaningful.
Jamie, Life Enrichment Director
How long have you been with Arbor View, and what led you to your role as Life Enrichment Director?
I have been here for 25 years and have been in activities for 30 years. I fell into it when someone asked if I wanted a part-time job working weekends, visiting elderly residents. From there, I was hired full time. I met a great mentor named Jennifer Beattie who taught me more about activities and all that it entails. After that, I knew it was where I wanted to be. Every day is different and adventurous. After I came to Arbor View and started working in assisted living, my passion grew more and I knew I had to work toward being the Life Enrichment Director. Here I am seven years later and still love every bit of it.
How would you describe your approach to creating meaningful and resident-driven programs?
Talking and learning about residents’ interests is where meaningful activity programs come in. Residents who live here are the ones who help determine what activities they want happening on the calendar, and I take mental notes as we do activities together.
What do you enjoy most about engaging with residents on a daily basis?
I love just talking with the residents about anything and everything! They have wonderful stories, thoughts and they’re so fun to hang out with.
How does working alongside your mom impact your experience at Arbor View?
Working with my mom is a great pleasure. This is her retirement job, watching her enjoy her job and what she does brings me happiness.
How would you describe the “family” culture at Arbor View?
It’s just like a family—we can have good and bad days, but it brings us all closer together.
What advice would you give yourself when you started working here?
Don’t take things personally, have as much fun as you can and continue to do your best.

I find it very strong, family oriented.
